Sacramento Daily Union, Volume 46, Number 7141, 23 February 1874: "Sudden Death — Mrs. Abigail Burnett, wife of P. W. Burnett, residing on P street, between Seventh and Eighth, died suddenly about 6 o'clock Saturday evening. She had been in apparently excellent health during the day, cooked dinner as usual, and was clearing the table, when her husband stepped out for a few minutes. When he returned, less than ten minutes afterward, she was sitting in a chair, dead. We understand that she has for several years been complaining of palpitation of the heart and pain in that region, though for eight or ten days previous to her death she had considered her health improved. Deceased was highly esteemed by her large circle of friends, being a very estimable lady."
