He came to Breckenridge with his parents as a small child.

He married Miss Anna Faye Grimes on 26 March 1942 in Abilene.

Chaney was a member of the Baptist Church and the Breckenridge Elks Lodge.

Survivors: his wife; five daughters - Mrs. Doris Hight, Mary, Diannah May, Brenda Ann and Carolyn Kay Chaney, all of the home; son - James Edward Chaney of the home; step-mother - Mrs. Anna Laura Chaney of Breckenridge; brother - McDonald Chaney of Breckenridge; two sisters - Mrs. Thelma Harper of Santa Maria, CA; Mrs. Ada Martin of Fort Townsend, OK; five half-brothers - Billy, Lee, E.E. and Calvin, all of Breckenridge; Jesse Chaney of Highway, IL; half-sister - Mrs. Dorothy Carey of Breckenridge, three step-brothers - D.F. Grimes of Breckenridge, Clyde Grimes of Diamond, OK; Jack Grimes of Waco.
