Elmer Leo Burk was killed in the Philippines Insurrection.
Elmer Leo Burk was attacked on Lake Lanao by Moros. He died with Sgt. Stevens and Pvt. Frank Bowser.
Pvt. Guy Fernando Keithley was badly injured and made it back to the fort to send the alarm. He died the next day.

The Cemetery has him listed as Edgar L. Burk which is incorrect, attempts are being made to correct this.

He was the eldest son of Daniel Madison and Anna Catherine Leiter Burk
His twin sister Ella Laura Burk* died 3 months after birth.

**His brother DM Burk served in the Navy during WWI, he is buried at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery. He was murdered in Donaphan, Missouri

***He had written home, as the Company was due to ship home within a month, excited to see his baby sister who had been born a few months after he shipped out. My grandmother who was this sister remembers being at his funeral at Fort Leavenworth when she was about 5 years old, it made quite an impression on her.
