Masters-Gray Engagement is Announced

Announcement of the betrothal of Miss Thelma Lee Masters of Telford and John Ernest Gray, Jr., of Silver Springs, Fla., was made at a tea given Sunday by Mrs. Frank Field, Jr., sister of the bride-elect.

The affair was held from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Field home, 804 West Maple Street.

Arrangements of flame colored gladioli used throughout the reception rooms were from the garden of Astor Masters of Telford, parents of the honoree.

A program of music was provided by Mrs. Clarence Ring, pianist, and Miss Francis Hawkins of the Julliard School of Music in New York. The later sang "I Love You Truly," "Just Because It's You," "O Promise Me," and "Speak to Me of Love," the program closing with "Vision of Florida" which furnished the introduction to the announcement of the occasion.

The betrothal was suggested by the appearance of the bride-elect wearing a wedding veil and holding a double wedding ring box containing the engagement ring.

The appointments further carried out the nuptial theme. A large wedding cake centered the tea table, and a large wedding ring hung from the chandelier. The cake, and the lace cloth which overlaid the table, had been sent from Australia by Mrs. Thomas Field, who is now teaching in "Kambala" Sydney, Australia, while awaiting transportation to the United States.

Mrs. Adalene Geisler, Miss Mary Jane Stewart and Miss Norma Oliveros assisted Mrs. Field in serving cake, flower mints, open-faced sandwiches, nuts and punch.

The guest list was limited to close relatives, friends and professional associates of the honoree. Out of town guests included Mrs. J. D. Fox of Limestone, Mrs. Frank Slonaker of Jonesboro, aunts of Miss Masters, Mrs. Astor Masters of Telford, and Lt. Louise Masters, Army Nurses Corps, from Atlanta, Ga.

Mr. Gray, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John E. Gray, Sr., of Silver Springs, Fla., recently flew home from Italy after 30 months in North Africa and Italy and was mustered out of the service under the point system. He has many friends and relatives in Washington county and before entering the service spent summer vacations here.

Miss Masters is a graduate of the Knoxville Hospital School of Nursing. She will complete her training this week at the veteran's hospital, Mountain Home where she was transferred for the last six months of her training.
