Mary E. Barker, age 86, of Kittanning, went to be with her Lord on Monday, August 22, 2011.

She was born on October 30, 1924 in West Kittanning to R. Melvin and Marybelle (Younkins) Bowser.

Mary was a 1942 graduate of Kittanning High School and lived in the area her entire life. She married her husband, Guy K. Barker, on January 2, 1946. Mary was a member of Center Hill Church of the Brethren but also enjoyed attending St. Luke's United Church of Christ.

Mary worked at Kittanning Leather Products from 1942 until 1954, but her true passion was caring for her family. Nothing gave her greater joy than spending time with her husband and son, and they will never forget the happy memories they shared. One such memory was how Mary and Guy dismantled their house in 1959 and had it rebuilt on a different plot of land, near Sunnyside. Decorating her house was her greatest hobby, and she loved making both the outside and inside of the house beautiful. Mary was also an avid bingo player and played for years all around the Kittanning area.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 65 years; son, Ken Barker, of Kittanning; and brother, W. Frank Bowser, of North Buffalo Twp.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son; and brothers, E. Earl Bowser and Roy M. Bowser.

Friends will be received from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM on Wednesday, August 24, 2011, at Bauer Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc, 515 N. McKean Street, Kittanning.

Additional visitation will be held from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at the Bauer Funeral Home with the Rev. John W. Snyder officiating.

Burial will be in Center Hill Church of the Brethren Cemetery, North Buffalo Twp., Armstrong Co.
