Calvin Hammond Gallup was born April 22, 1923 at Blue Rapids, the son of Alfred Gallup and Eleanor Smerchek. He graduated from Marysville High School with the class of 1941. After high school Calvin joined the US Navy where he was a Gunners Mate 2d Class during WWII and serving in the Pacific Theater. Calvin worked for Stryker's Shop in Blue Rapids for 25 years, retiring in 1980. He had also worked as a farmer and was known for his knowledge and skill with the old Ford Model T's.
He married Mildred L. Keller on November 7, 1961 at the Presbyterian Church in Blue Rapids.
Calvin was a member of New Hope Evangelical Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder. He had also served his church as a Trustee, Sunday School Teacher and Bible Study Leader. He was also a member of the George Bedford Post 169 of the American Legion and VFW Post 4175 both of Blue Rapids.
He is survived by his wife Millie of Blue Rapids and by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers; Robert Gallup and Ralph Gallup.
Funeral services are planned for 10:00 am, Thursday, August 25, 2011 at the Blue Rapids United Presbyterian Church with Pastor Dick Coleman officiating. Viewing will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Military Honors provided by VFW Post 4175 of Blue Rapids. Burial will be at Prospect Hill Cemetery, North of Blue Rapids.
