JACOBSON, Zelda Ruth

Born March 22, 1911, in Ottumwa, Iowa, to James and Jessie Barrier. Zelda was the oldest of four children and was preceded in death by her siblings, Gladys Philley, Marvin Barrier and Alyce Tschetter. Early years were spent in Montana where the family homesteaded on a farm. In about 1924, the family moved to Spokane where she spent most of her life. She attended North Central High School, but she quit to help support the family during the Depression. At 18, she eloped with Lester Valiquette, and they had one child, Jerrinne Evenoff. Zelda is survived by her daughter, Jerrinne, Spokane; granddaughters: Suzanne Clary (Denny), Elk, WA, Joslyn Cockburn (John), Bremerton, WA, grandson, Mark Perry (Patsy), Kennesaw, GA, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandsons. Following the death of her latest husband Harold, Zelda and Jerrinne took several trips, including visits with step-granddaughter, Vicki Scharff (Andreas) and her family. She loved playing bridge,golfing, gambling, and being with her family. A memorial service will be held at 1 PM, Wednesday, February 18, 2009, at HAZEN & JAEGER, 1306 N. MONROE, SPOKANE, WA. Donations may be made to Hospice of Spokane or Southside Senior Activity Center, 3151 E 27th Ave, Spokane, 99223-4919.
