Mr. Marquis was a steamfitter for Northern Natural Gas Co. in Wichita, and he worked throughout the U.S.
He was born April 27, 1915, at Petersburg, Texas, the son of James and Callie Sullivan Marquis. He attended school in Matadore, Texas, and he moved to Topeka in 1993 from Wichita, Kansas. Mr. Marquis was a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local Union No. 171 in Wichita, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 132 in Wichita, the Masonic Lodge at Kiefer, Okla., and he was a charter member of the Chisolm Trail Aerie No. 3215 in Wichita. He was married to Wilma E. Blackford on June 16, 1937, at Sublette. They had two sons, Willard Robert Marquis, Topeka, and Thomas Leroy Marquis,(Wife-Linda Ruth Wilson) Platte City, Mo., both deceased. He had four grandchildren-James Lee Marquis, Geraldine Marquis, Thomas Anthony Marquis, and Gregory Michael Marquis. He had three great-grandchildren, Amy Lynn Marquis, Loralie Daughn Marquis, and Dylan Edward Marquis. She also had three great-great grandchildren, Basia Reni Kulpa, Alan Pepsi Kulpa, & Mia Lynn Fueston.
Mr. Marquis was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Marquis circa 1938. Susan was still born and is buried near Great Bend, Kansas. Services for Bill will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Davidson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice Care and sent in care of the funeral home.
