This appears to be the same CN Thompson who was married to Caroline Putnam of Piatt Co. IL. CN was brother-in-law to famous Chicago millionaire Samuel W. Allerton. Two of CN's sisters were married to Sam Allerton. CN for many years was General MGR of the A. T. Land & Livestock Co of Cedar Rapids, Boone Co. Nebraska. CN was involved in other cattle and banking busineses with Allerton as well. His 2 sons must have taken over, as the sons were very prominent bankers and cattle buyers. IN 1900 Census Caroline, lists that she is divorced. In 1900 CN is living in Nez Perce Idaho, says he is married.(No wife's name listed). IN 1910, CN is living in Beaver Precinct, Lincoln Co. Oregan, says he is widowed.
In an 1893 Omaha World Herald newspaper Article Eva C. Thompson, says she is the wife of CN Thompson who is now connected with the Chicago Stockyards in an official capacity under VP Allerton, his brother-in-law. On April 14 1884, CN Thompson and Eva were married in Cedar Rapids, Boone Co. Nebraska. In 1885, They are listed on the Nebraska State census. Also In 1885, Eva C. Thompson is still Eva C. Beauchamp, living in Omaha NE. In 1895, she is found in Omaha as Mrs. Eva C. Thompson. In 1900, she is living in St. Louis, MO as Eva C. Thompson, widow of Chas. N. Thompson, but he isn't deceased. there are also records, that says Charles is widowed, but both his 1st wife and Eva were still alive. Eva Thompson Died May 4 1910 in Manhatten NY. of Tubercula of the Lung. Eva's sister lived in NY. Caroline Putnam Thompon died in 1918 in Piatt Co. IL. Research is still being done regarding the Divorce and/or remarriage. Charles and Carolines sons were well known and ran businesses for their Uncle Samuel Allerton. Once such place was the famous 'Headquarters Ranch' in Wheeler Co. Nebraska. The historical 'Headquarters' still stands. CN, was in Nez Pez Idaho and possible staked a mine claim. He then moved on to Lincoln Co. Oregon, was the county commissioner, well thought of. Owned property, had some influence on Port Alsea and possible building a resort in Lincoln. County. I would like to hear from any descendants who might know more about him or have pictures. I believe he was in the civil war also.
