Louetta May Scott was born on 23 January 1895 in Missouri. Little is known of her parentage- except that her father was J.M or "Jake" Scott.
On September 27, 1911 Etta (Ettie, Eddie, Edie) married Joseph Albert Blackwell in Oklahoma- and he, along with his mother- Susanna J Freeman (Blackwell)- died there later that same year.
Two Blackwell children were born to Etta...the first, Joe, (1913) and the second, Alice, (1918).
Could Etta and her father in law, the senior Joseph (Cephus) Blackwell have found comfort in each others arms after both their spouses died suddenly???
We may never know, but this is the only theory that seems to make any sense.
After the death of Joseph Cephus Blackwell in 1917, Etta met and married William Daniel Deckard (Oklahoma 1919).
His first wife, Georgia Sidesmore had recently passed away, leaving him with at least two children- Virgil and Jesse. So,this was a second marriage for both of them. In 1927 they moved to Mission, Texas where Etta gave birth to six more children...
Floyd, Frank, Leslie, Monty, Sam and my grandmother, Mary.
This was during the time of the Great Depression and to make matters worse- William died in 1934.
I remember grandma telling me that her and some of her brothers and sisters were placed in an orphanage, the Sunny Glen Childrens Home- Mission, TX. because Etta couldn't take care of them at the time.
Etta was remarried shortly thereafter to one C W Walker and i understand they went back for the children. As far as I know, they never had any children mutually but remained married until her death on 23 December 1967. They are buried side by side.
Daniel's parents- George Deckard and (Matilda) Ellen Brown are buried near their son, William at the Laurel Hill Cemetery in Mission.

Grandma, Mary Magdalene Deckard (Campbell) once told me that her mama had been full blooded Cherokee. My hope is to eventually find out much more about this interesting and elusive woman whos blood we share.
