Benson John Lossing was the sixth child of Peter Lossing and Hannah Brill.

On August 19, 1819 in Society Friends Meeting House, Norwich, Ontario, Canada, Benson married Hannah Cornwell. Benson and Hannah had children: Edward, Anna, and Henry. Benson married a second time to Anna Eliza Sutton and a third time to Lois Kellogg.
