Lucy was born September 14, 1936 to Herman and Agatha (Heister) Kepplinger of Verndale MN. Lucy was the youngest of three beautiful sisters including Joan and Margret. They attended Verndale schools together. Lucy and the family raised livestock, including poultry, equine and cattle on their family farm. As in the tradition of her mother's family, Lucy became a fine horsewoman. She enjoyed needle work, drawing, photography, and had a witty sense of humor as well. Upon graduating in 1954 from Verndale High School, Lucy married Emil (Jim) Gustafson June 16,1954 in Cass County, Minnesota and began raising a family. She attended Valley City Teacher's College and graduated with a 2 year teaching certificate. In search of career opportunities Lou, Jim, infant child and mother-in-law Alice Gustafson moved West to Montana with friends Harriet and son Larry Torgerson. They found temporary employment while seeking teaching positions, eventually establishing residence in Las Vegas NV during the mid 1950's. Lou worked as a keno girl at The Frontier Freimont Hotel and Casino. She enjoyed competitive dance through Arthur Murray Studios. Gentle Lou's beautiful life was cut short due to a fatal accident while en route home to Fingal ND to attend a family function during the Easter season. This information is supplied by Lucy's one surviving daughter as collected from family and friends over an extraordinary span of 65 adventurous years.
