The eyes of another pioneer woman of Stanislaus county were closed in death on Sunday evening at Waterford, when Mrs Mary Ann Davis, widow of the late William Davis, succumbed to an attack of the heart. For several months past Mrs Davis has been a victim of heart trouble and while she was otherwise in good health, her sudden death was not unexpected.
The deceased was a native of Alabama. She crossed the plains with her husband and they settled in the neighborhood of Waterford in 1857, and she has lived there since. Her husband died in 1873.
She is survived by four sons and one daughter, namely G W Davis of La Grange, E W Davis of Wadsworth, Nevada, Thomas Davis of San Francisco, and Mrs Alice Amer of Oakdale. The deceased was 77 years of age. She was an honored and respected woman, and her loss will be sincerely mourned by a large circle of friends. - Modesto News.
