Bertha Bowlus as 5th child born to William Grant and Bertha Rice Bowlus born Baird Texas in the house across the street south of the present Lee Estes hospital. She was named after her mother and the grand kids and great grand kids called her Mimmie and her mother 'Great Mimmie'.
Bertha Rice was born in Kansas and came to Texas with her family 1879 where she eventually met Grant Bowlus a thriving carpenter in Baird. They got married when she was 18 years old in 1889.
Bertha met Hal Ramsey and later they were married when she was 18 years old on March 10 1918.
Bertha and Hal had two children, a dau Nena Juanita called 'Nete' and son Hal Harrison III called 'Bud'.
They lived their remaining years in Corpus Christi on the Gulf of Mexico. Mimmie loved to play Canasta and could beat anyone even those she taught to play. She made the best 7 up floats and loved her ice cold home with its 3 air conditioners! There was nothing she could not craft or sew, such talent and an excellent cook with receipes she just knew by heart. But Paw could make the best oven baked mac and cheese ever. Now Mimmie could make the best Banana pudding ever with real meringue on top!
Best grandparents any grand child could have!
Sadly she outlived not just her husband Hal but also both her own children. She died on March 13 the day my own son turned 18 years old making the day very bittersweet.
