Deceased Name: W. Robert Bell
Memorial services for W. Robert Bell, 78, 110 Pilgrim Drive, Portland, are Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Pennville United Methodist Church with Pastors Nancy Richmond and Fred Bishop presiding. He died Monday morning in Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie. Born in Indianapolis on Feb. 12, 1925 to Charles and Martha (Hidy) Bell, he was a 1943 Pennville High School graduate; a 1950 Purdue University graduate, West Lafayette; and a 1960 graduate of Ball State University, Muncie. He married Audrey Brewster on Oct. 27, 1945. She survives. Serving in the U.S. Navy from 1943-45, he taught at Gray High School in Jay County for two years; Gaston High School for 13 years; and Wilson Middle School for 20 years, retiring in 1985. He was a 33rd degree mason and a member of Pennville Lodge No. 212; Scottish Rite; Gideons; Jay County Retired Teacher's Association; Pennville United Methodist Church; and a member of the Pennville Lions Club for 50 years. Other survivors include one son, Robert G. Bell, Portland; a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Nancy) Webb, Farmland; a sister, Mrs. Bill (Lillian) Hadley, Venice, Fla.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Pennville United Methodist Church or Jay County Habitat for Humanity. Baird-Freeman Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
