Marie Haman was born in Moravia, then part of the Austria-Hungary Empire. She married John Havlik, a widower with four children on November 2, 1869. John and Marie immigrated to America with three of John's children in 1876. They initially settled in Wisconsin where their daughter Eva Marie was born in 1878. They then migrated to Nebraska, first to Wilber and later to Rushville. They moved to South Dakota sometime after 1900.
