Bugler, Company I, 18th Pennsylvania Cavalry. Wounded by saber on left side of head and in arm during charge at Hagerstown, Maryland, on July 6, 1863. Admitted to 1st Division Hospital. Annapolis, Maryland, on August 3, 1863. Admitted to Annapolis Hospital Number 7 in September 1863 with "Vuls Sclopst" (probably Vulnus Sclopeticum, relating to a wound caused by a gunshot). Discharged by surgeon's certificate on July 1, 1864. Discharge date also listed as July 7, 1864.

Filed for a pension on March 27, 1883, application number 477,548, certificate 391,909 from Illinois. Wife Hettie C. Bohne filed for a widow's pension on April 5, 1886, application number 337,340, certificate number 242,827 from Illinois.
