Kay and Verdie were married at the home of his Grandmother Malinda's house by preacher Grace, a Methodist minister. This was told to me by Goldie Hensley Ely July 12, 1991.

Kay and Verdie came to Ohio shortly after they were married. He worked as a farm hand for a few years before trying to farm on his own near Fairhaven, Ohio. His hogs contracted cholera a short time after he started and they all died.

After that he returned to working for other farmers, including Percy Sanford and Carl Eaton. During the depression he was over come with gas while in a implement dealership at College Corner, OH. He worked as a carpenter for a time before buying a Mobil Service Station in Liberty, Indiana. He operated that until he had a heart attack which forced him to quit work for more than a year.

After a period he regained his health and spent several years on the police department for the town of Liberty. After retiring they spent their winters in New Port Richey, FL. He enjoyed gardening and his grand-children.
