Guernsey was shown as her widowed grandmother's "daughter" in the 1910 and 1920 census but correctly cited as her granddaughter in Alma's obituary. Guernsey Marie's mother married John Harvey Nichols in 1912 and soon after moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, leaving Marie in the care of her grandmother until her grandmother's death in 1920. It appears she was then taken in by her aunt, Mrs. Mamie Flinn, as Harry M Flinn signed permission for 16-year-old Guernsey Marie to marry Orland Prestridge at their home in Birmingham, Alabama during 1925. Guernsey and Orland were together as late as his WWII draft registration in 1942 given in Gary, Indiana, but apparently divorced. She married Jesse Robert Richards in 1946.
