Leland married Nelda Robertson on August 5, 1950, in Brownwood TX. They were blessed with three children: Ron, Alan, and Leigh Ann. Nelda and Leland briefly made their first home in Coleman TX before moving to Jal NM. Leland started working for El Paso Natural Gas in 1951. The majority of his 35 years with El Paso was in Jal. He started out working in the processing plant and ended his career as a Compressor Technician. In 1991, Nelda and Leland moved to Woodward. He went to work for Circle K Services taking care of the compressors and oil and gas leases for ten years, retiring in 2001. Leland was a member of the First Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching westerns, reading, and spending time with his family and friends. He also loved spending time at Brownwood Lake.
He is survived by his sons Ron Kerby and wife Cheryl of Albuquerque NM, and Alan Kerby and wife Rita of Woodward; daughter Leigh Ann Fierro and husband Tinker of Woodward; grandchildren Chad Mead and wife Amanda of Woodward, Cole Mead of Woodward, and Sam Kerby and Lauren Kerby of Albuquerque; great-grandchildren Jake Mead and Abby Mead; sisters Corene Egger and husband Bobby of Kermit TX, and Dorene Head and husband Doyle of Brownwood TX; and other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Nelda in 2007, and brother Herb Kerby.
