Samuel L. Custer
Samuel L. Custer, 81, of Coldwater, died Friday, September 14, 2001, at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.
Mr. Custer was born November 16, 1919, in Olivet, to August and Hattie (Walters) Custer. He married Maudie Bradley July 30, 1939. She survives.
Mr. Custer worked at Gale Manufacturing and Union Steel, both in Albion, and lived in the area most of his life.
Mr. Custer was a member of the Golden Age Club and AARP. He enjoyed farming.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Custer is survived by a daughter, Janice (Thomas) Childers of Coldwater; four sons, Kenneth (Mary) Custer of Mancelona, Larry (Lyn) Custer of Reno, Nevada, and Gary (Buena) Custer and Randy (Dorothy) Custer, of Wassila, Alaska; two sisters, Nellie Marks of Albion and Mabel Stone of Allen; 21 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held today, September 19, 2001, at the Putnam Funeral Home in Coldwater, with Pastor William Wilson of the Gospel Lighthouse in Coldwater, officiating. Burial will be in Albion Memory Gardens in Albion.
Memorial contributions may be made to the CHC Nephrology Center.
