Willie Florence (Evans) Durham Holley is the Daughter of Henry C. Evans(Nov 18, 1871 GA - Dec. 01, 1904 Attalla, Etowah Co., AL) and Delia (Harris) Evans (Dec 08, 1872 Etowah Co., AL - Jan 16, 1962 Attalla, Etowah Co., AL.

Willie Florence Evans married Riley Richard Durham on Feb. 22, 1913 in Attalla, Etowah Co., AL, and they had five children together by their marriage, and all five children were born at home:

(1.) Richard Henry Durham (Sept 28, 1914 at home in Attalla, Etowah Co., AL - April 25, 1965 Tuscaloosa, Tuscaloosa Co., AL)he married Mary Alma Limbaugh. They are both buried at Forrest Cemetery, Gadsden, Etowah Co., AL.

(2.) Marguerite Nell Durham (Jan 23, 1919 at home in Attalla, Etowah Co., AL - Feb 06, 2008 Etowah Co., AL)she married James Leslie Overstreet. They are both buried at Oak Hill Cemetery, Attalla, Etowah Co., AL.

(3.) Myrtle Ruth "Mert" Durham (Nov 18, 1924 at home in Ivalee, Etowah Co., AL - July 07, 1999 Huntsville, TX)she married 1st to Mr. Elliot. She married 2nd to James Quentin Smith. They are both buried at Seaside Memorial Park, Corpus Christi, Nueces Co., TX.

(4.) Nannette Durham (June 12, 1927 at home in Ivalee, Etowah Co., AL - Feb 21, 2009 at home in Saks, Calhoun Co., AL)she married Alston Roscoe Lewis, Jr. She is buried at Crestwood Cemetery in East Gadsden, Etowah Co., AL.

(5.) Doris Eugenia "Jean" Durham (July 24, 1932 at home in Ivalee, Etowah Co. AL - Oct 03, 2011 Anniston, Calhoun Co., AL), she married and divorced Thomas Francis Kearney in the Early "1950's", but they remained life long friends.

Willie Florence (Evans) Durham Holley was a member of The First Baptist Church in Attalla, Etowah Co., AL and at one time a member of the Eastern Star. She was a loving and caring Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. She was a talented seamtress and sewed many beautiful dresses for her Granddaughters. She had a wonderful sense of humor.
Willie was smart and she was a Telephone Operator in Attalla, Etowah Co., AL when she was a very young girl. After her Father, Henry C. Evans died, her Mother, Delia Harris Evans turned one of the other houses she owned into a Boarding House on North Fourth Street in Attalla. The boarding house was located across 14th avenue from Delia's home on the corner of 14th avenue and North Fourth Street in Attalla, AL. One day the Boarding House caught on fire. Willie Florence Evans was working at the Telephone Office in downtown Attalla, AL and was the telephone operator who put the call through to the Fire Department. Willie met Riley Richard Durham while he was living at her Mother's Boarding House. At that time Riley was working at the Attalla Water Works, which was directly across the street from the Boarding House (The orginial Northside Baptist Church was built on the old location of the Attalla Water Works). Their marriage license does not reflect her true age when they married. Willie Florence Evans was 13 years old when she married Riley Richard Durham, but she gave her age as older.

Riley Richard Durham (Sept. 14, 1892 GA - Jan. 31, 1974 AL) purchased 5 acres of land March 22, 1923 (Etowah County Court House; Etowah County, Alabama; Deeds: Book:4-H Page: 402) and Riley Richard Durham had a home built for them in Ivalee, Etowah County, Alabama 1923-1924. The family lived in this home until Riley Richard Durham and Willie Florence (Evans) Durham divorced in 1935-1936. Riley Richard Durham and Willie Florence Evans Durham also owned 2 additional houses in Attalla, Alabama, which they rented out. One of these additional homes was a two story house in Attalla between the underpass into Attalla, and Hughes Ave. in Attalla. The other house was at 408 6th Street NW, where uphill 4th Ave. NW intersected with 6th Street. After Riley Richard Durham and Willie Florence Evans Durham divorced, Willie and their younger children lived fist in the Two story house, and they were living in the second house at 408 6th St. NW at intersect of 4th Ave. NW, when the 1940 census was taken. Riley Richard Durham and Willie Florence Evans Durham sold one of these two houses to their son, Richard Henry Durham).

On March 03, 1941, Willie Florence (Evans) Durham purchased a lot on the corner of 6th Ave and 6th Street in Attalla, AL (Etowah County Court House; Etowah County, Alabama: Deeds: Book: 6E, Page: 489) and by 1941-1942, Willie Florence Evans Durham had a new home built on this lot for herself and children by 1941-1942. The address of this home was 517 -6th Avenue, Attalla, Etowah County, Alabama. It was located a block from The First Baptist Church of Attalla, where the family had been long time members.

After their Divorce in 1935-1936, Riley Richard Durham remarried June 27, 1936 in Calhoun Co., Alabama to Mary Lou Dodd, but Willie Florence Evans Durham did not remarry until "1946". Willie Florence (Evans) Durham married second to John Thomas "Tom" Holley (March 04, 1896 AL - Oct. 04, 1963 AL) and they did not have any children together by their marriage. Willie Florence Evans Durham Holley and John Thomas "Tom" Holley lived in the house that belonged to Willie Florence Evans Durham Holley. They had a happy marriage and a good life together. John Thomas "Tom" Holley passed away Oct. 04, 1963 and was buried at Crestwood Memorial Cemetery in Gadsden, AL. Willie Florence Evans Durham Holley chose to be buried near her brother and relatives at Rainbow Memorial Park(also known as Rainbow Memorial Gardens)Cemetery in Etowah Co., AL.
