Riley Richard Durham is the son of George Richard Durham (June 24, 1868 High Shoals, Paulding Co., GA - March 29, 1950 Lonoke Co., ARK)and his first wife, Anna "Annie" Margaret (Barber) Durham (1867 Braswell, Paulding Co., GA -1912 DeKalb Co., AL) His parents moved from Paulding Co., GA to DeKalb Co., AL, where they purchased their land in 1906 and settled there sometime a little later.

Riley Richard Durham moved to Attalla, Etowah County, Alabama between 1910-1911 and went to work for "The Attalla Water Works", which at that time was located on North 4th Street, Attalla, AL. Riley rented a room at the Boarding House, which was directly across North 4th Street from "The Attalla Water Works", and this Boarding House was owned by the Widow, Delia Harris Evans, Mother of Willie Florence Evans. Delia Harris Evans was the Widow of Henry C. Evans and her home was across 14th Ave. from her Boarding House, and on the corner of North 4th Street and 14th Ave. "The Attalla Water Works was on the corner of North 4th Street and 14th Ave. on the other side of North 4th Street. This was where Riley Richard Durham met Willie Florence Evans.

Riley Richard Durham married Willie Florence Evans on Feb. 22, 1913 in Attalla, Etowah Co., AL, and they had five children together by their marriage. Willie Florence Evans Durham gave birth to all of their children at home and none of the children were born in a hospital. The oldest children, Richard Henry Durham and Marguerite Nell Durham were born at home in Attalla, Etowah County, Alabama, and the rest of the children were born at their home in Ivalee, Etowah County, Alabama.

The five Children of Riley Richard Durham (Sept. 14, 1892 GA - Jan. 31, 1974 AL) and Willie Florence Evans Durham (Jan. 09, 1898 AL - Jan. 06, 1982 AL) are:

(1.) Richard Henry Durham (Sept. 28, 1914 at home in Attalla, Etowah Co.,AL -Apr. 25, 1965 AL),he married Mary Alma Limbaugh. They are both buried at Forrest Cemetery, Gadsden, Etowah Co., AL

(2.) Marguerite Nell Durham (Jan. 23, 1919 at home in Attalla, Etowah Co., AL -Feb. 06, 2008 AL), she married James Leslie Overstreet. They are both buried at Oak Hill Cemetery, Attalla, Etowah Co., AL

(3.) Myrtle Ruth Durham (Nov. 18, 1924 at home in Ivalee, Etowah Co., AL - July 07, 1999 TX), she married 1st to Mr. Elliot. She married 2nd to James Quentin Smith. Myrtle Ruth and James Quentin Smith are both buried at Seaside Memorial Park in Corpus Christi, Nueces Co., TX.

(4.) Nannette Durham (June 12, 1927 at home in Ivalee, Etowah Co., AL - Feb 21, 2009 at home in Saks, Calhoun Co., AL)she married Alston Roscoe Lewis, Jr. She is buried at Crestwood Cemetery in East Gadsden, Etowah Co., AL.

(5.) Doris Eugenia Durham (July 24, 1932 at home in Ivalee, Etowah Co., AL - Oct. 03, 2011 AL), she married and divorced Thomas Frances Kearney in the mid "1950's", but they remained friends. She is buried next to her Mother, Willie Florence Evans Durham Holley, at Rainbow Memorial Park (Also known as Rainbow Memorial Gardens) in Rainbow City, Etowah Co., AL.

Riley Richard Durham was a machinist at Republic Steel Corporation in Etowah Co., AL. He purchased five acres of land in Ivalee, Etowah Co., AL, and had a home built on this land for his family by 1923- early 1924. Riley Richard Durham hand-picked every slab of wood and every stone that went into the building or their new home.
Riley was a member of The First Baptist Church of Attalla, Etowah Co., AL and a member of the Attalla Masonic Lodge 383, who served as Worshipful Master for the year of "1927".

Riley Richard Durham and Willie Florence Evans Durham divorced in 1935-1936 Alabama, and Riley Richard Durham remarried on June 27, 1936 in Calhoun County, Alabama to Mary Lou Dodd, and they had two children together by their marriage, (both Male), Both Living.
