Funeral service for Alfred R. Curtsinger, 79 of Geronimo, will be at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, August 20, 2011 at Geronimo Baptist Church with Rev. John Cullison, pastor of Geronimo Baptist Church and Rev. Steve Mallow, pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Lawton, officiating.


Burial will be at Walters Cemetery under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home.

Alfred was born on August 20, 1931 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma to Jesse and Edna (Wilmont) Curtsinger. He grew up in Comanche County where he attended school. He joined the United States Army during the Korean war and served from July 2, 1952 until April 1, 1954. While serving his country, he received the United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with three bronze stars, National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. After his honorable discharge from the military, he continued to serve in the Army Reserves. He worked at the Oklahoma Department of Transportation for over 25 years before retiring. He married the love of his life, Roberta (Jones) McNeil on August 27, 1965 in Geronimo, Oklahoma. He and Roberta were members of the Geronimo Baptist Church and he was always working on the church when anything needed fixing. One of his core accomplishments was his family. He was a kind, compassionate, generous person and was always ready to help someone. He was a person of devotion and integrity, a man who understood a hard day's work. He was also a modest man and never wanted to be acknowledged for anything he did.

He is survived by his wife, Roberta, of the home; three daughters and sons in law, Sherry and David Lee, of New Hebron, Mississippi, Deborah and John Hunter, of Comanche, Oklahoma and Rhonda and James Beasley, of Geronimo, Oklahoma; his sister and brother in law, Evelyn and Clarence Phillips, of Geronimo; eight grandchildren, Cassandra and her husband, Dabo, John and his wife, Shaleen, Jason and his wife, Terri, J.C. and his wife, Kacie, Charlie, Loni Jo, Jessie and Mark; 21 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of loving friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Lonnie Joe McNeil; his daughter, Retha Jean Curtsinger; one brother, Elwood Cravey; and one sister, Mildred Hill.
