Chuck Sullivan, 83, of Lakin, died Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2011, at Kearny County Hospital in Lakin.
He was born Nov. 22, 1927, in Horton, to Paul Justin and Loretta Burns Sullivan. He graduated from Powhattan High School in 1945.

On Sept. 19, 1950, he married Phyllis A. Miltz in Herington.

A Lakin resident since 1970, Mr. Sullivan was a bank examiner for the State of Kansas until retiring in 1988. He supervised all the examinations of state chartered banks for the western half of Kansas. In the early 1980s he was appointed as a special assistant to the bank commissioner, with the sole purpose of closely supervising "problem banks." He had worked in banks at Hiawatha, David City, Neb., and Tilden, Neb. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and also served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force.

In addition to his wife, survivors include three sons, Patrick, Steven and P..J. Sullivan, all of Lakin; two daughters, Loretta Nykodym of Tilden, and Theresa Meyer of Palmer; a brother, Tim Sullivan of Hiawatha; three sisters, Kathleen Weishaar of Nortonville, Margaret Pianalto of Atwood, and Helen Sullivan of Kansas City; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers, Paul, Gilbert, Leo, Tom, James, Dan and Terry; and a sister, Maureen Ruggles.

Vigil service was at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Lakin. Funeral Mass was at the church. Burial was at Lakin Cemetery.
