According to records found on Ancestry.com, Mary Lou's mother was Isabella A McGahey who her father, Rev. James Elisha Mathis, married in Pickens County, Alabama on 24 Dec 1878. According to the Redford Family Tree, Isabella died about 1886 in Tennessee.
The obituary for William Wood Mathis stated he was survived by his half sister, Mrs. Jim Stokes of Millport, AL (aka Mary Lou Mathis Stokes) and his half brother, Curt Mathis, of Caledonia, MS. Therefore, they had the same father, but they did not have the same mother. William Wood Mathis' mother was Mary Frances "Molly" Stokes Mathis.
