Ray Albert Emswiler, 95, of Oak Lea Nursing Home in Harrisonburg, Va., died Saturday at the home. he had been a resident in the Alzheimer's Unit of Oak Lea since 1988.
He had taught school in the Rockingham County, Va., school system for 38 years, and had served as a principal.
A charter member of the Bergton Ruritan Club, Emswiler was a former trustee of the former Eastern Mennonite College, now Eastern Mennonite University.
Emswiler was ordained to the ministry in 1942, and served the Valley View Mennonite Church at Criders, Va. He also participated in a variety of church activities, including music and committee work.
He was the husband of Emma S. Garber Emswiler, formerly of Elizabethtown. They would have been married 64 years on July 12.
Born in Cootes Store, Va., he was the son of the late B. Frank and Cora Smith Emswiler.
Surviving besides his wife are two sons, David Ray, husband of Ruth Peachey Emswiler, and B. Frank, husband of Luella Graber Emswiler, both of Harrisonburg; two daughters, Esther, wife of Dr. Harold E. Kraybill of Lebanon and Irene, wife of the Rev. Harley D. Good of Harrisonburg; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren
