He was born in Chattanooga, TN Sept. 14, 1930 and had resided in Oneida, TN until moving and spending the majority of his life in Big Stone Gap, VA. He was a retiree from the Communications Department of Southern Railroad. A sincerely devoted man to family and friends, an inspiring artist, accomplished musician and a brilliant craftsman and luthier.
He is survived by wife Lowry Sandt Crabtree, daughter Rhonda Sexton of Oneida, TN, daughter Patti Brown (husband Donnie) of Oneida, TN, son William L. Crabtree (wife Mary) of Knoxville, TN, son Drew Crabtree (wife Cheryl), son Rian Crabtree, daughter Christina Crabtree Dutton all of Big Stone Gap, VA, three brothers John Crabtree of Muskegon, MI, Carl Crabtree (wife Doris) of St. Augustine, FL, Andrew Crabtree of Clyde, OH, Seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. on Saturday at Holding Funeral Home (17 E. 3rd St, N.), Big Stone Gap with the service to follow in the chapel at 3:30 p.m. with Phillip Miller officiating.
A private family burial will take place Sunday in Winfield, TN.
