JAMES MAGONEGIL
1860-1940
James Magonegil was born at Beetown, Wis., January 1, 1860. He passed away in the Harrisonville hospital, Tuesday morning, February 13, 1940, at 4:20 o'clock.
He, with his wife, who is a daughter of W. E. Brown of the Everett community, had come to Missouri from their home at Timber Lake, S. D., about January first, to spend a couple of months visiting relatives.
The center of interest was to be a family reunion at the Brown home near Everett, which was held rently, and was attended by all the immediate relatives of the family. While visiting in the home of Glenn Brown of near Archie, a brother-in-law, he attended a sale in the community hoping to meet some old time friends and acquaintances. Shortly thereafter he contracted an ailment which involved his heart.
He was brought to the hospital on Monday, February 12, and the following morning the end came.
At the age of thirty he left his native state, and located on a homestead near Plankington, S. D. Two years after he arrived in this community he was united in marriage to Miss Alice Tindal.
The date of the wedding was April 21, 1892. To this union one child was born, a son, Allie Magonegil, whose residence at the present time is Woodlands, Calif.
When his son was only three days old the mother died.
In 1908 Mr. Magonegil left South Dakota and moved to Missouri, locating near Merwin in Bates county. While here he was married a second time, Mrs. Laura E. Miller, becoming his bride. The wedding was September 10, 1920. Shortly after the wedding he established his home at Timber Lake, S. D., where he has since resided.
Besides his only son he leaves behind his devoted companion, and a step-daughter, Mrs. Melvin Lund of Timber Lake, S. D. Two sisters are living out of a family of twelve children; Mrs. Emily Weisbenner of Bloomington, Wis., and Mrs. Hannah Blackburn of Cassville, Wis. Also he is survived by two granddaughters, other relatives, and many friends.
Mr. Magonegill was a farmer all his life. He was industrious, frugal, and trustworthy. In his soul were the courage and the faith of the pioneer. He loved his home his work, and his friends. He will be missed by all who were associated with him.
Funeral services were held at the Atkinson Bros. Funeral Home Saturday afternoon, February 17, at 1:30 o'clock, being conducted by the Rev. George C. Monroe of Harrisonville.
Burial was in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery five miles south of town.
