Mr. Smith was a veteran of World War I. He was a member of the Central Christian Church, the American Legion and the Elks Lodge, all of Bedford, and was a former secretary-treasurer of the Bedford Boat Club.
Surviving are the widow, Hazel, a daughter, Mrs. Landis (Mary) Moore, Chesterfield; two grandchildren, Robert Moore, Selma, and Mrs. Charles (Anita) Marsh, Chesterfield, and four great-grandchildren.
Marion Delores Hawkins was adopted by his maternal grandfather John Smith and his second wife, Emma Morris Smith, on February 6, 1905 and was therefore known by the name of his adopted parents as Marion Delores Smith.
