Aug 21 1896 Port Byron Globe reported the William Ferman home burned to ground. Family lost all belongings, had no insurance. A defective flue was thought to be the cause.

From Jul 23 1897 Port Byron Globe:
"Mrs Harriet Ferman has had Chas. Hannewacker arrested for selling liquor to her husband, Wm. Ferman. Mr. H. was notified not to sell any liquor to Ferman."
