He was born on December 12, 1929, in Mount Salem, Kentucky, a son of the late Virgil Delk and Lillian O'dell Campbell Delk. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Jeanette S. Delk.
Mr. Delk was the former owner and operator of the Red Rooster Grill in Gordonsville, past president and member of the Barboursville Ruitain Club, member of the Piedmont-Stella Masonic Lodge, #50 (Master Mason - 1976, Worshipful Master 1982, Scottish Rite, Acca Temple Shrine and was a United States Navy veteran retired with twenty years of service.
Mr. Delk is survived by his wife, Marjorie Estes Delk of Barboursville; two daughters, Lilly A. Delk of Gordonsville and Karen L. Allen of Charlottesville; a son, Sherman Donald Delk Jr. of Florida; three grandchildren, Misty L. Caudle and partner, Susan Brown, of Afton, Joseph D. Fowler of Charlottesville, Kristy G. Hart and husband, John, of Winchester; and two great-grandchildren, Madison F. Hart and Garrett A. Hart.
He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Vernetta Lucas, Ada Edwards and Chelise Delk.
A graveside funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, August 19, 2011, at Maplewood Cemetery in Gordonsville, officiated by the Reverend Carmon Hartsfield.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, August 18, 2011, at the Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Gordonsville.
