ALMA RAE McLAIN DIRR, 99, of Fort Wayne, died Sunday, July 4, 2004, at Lutheran Homes. The Fort Wayne native retired in 1968 from Hutner's Paris as a sales clerk. She had been a longtime member of St. Paul United Methodist Church on Lombard St.
She is survived by sons, Gene L. (Garnet) Dirr of Garrett and Larry A. (Phyllis) Dirr of Fort Wayne; daughters, Wanda Carpenter of Fort Wayne and Bonnie (Wayne) Creager of Garrett; brothers, Claud (Betty) McLain of Rogers, Minn. and Gaylon (Frances) McLain of Sweet Home, Ore.; grandchildren, Melinda (Randy) Bowmar, Wendy (Kent) Giant, Bridget Creager, Lettie (Tom) Eager, Donny (Roxanne) Carpenter and Brad Dirr, all of Fort Wayne, Bill (Phyllis Sue) Carpenter of Monroeville, Chris (Ron) Smith, Kathy (Greg) Van Allen, Roger (Holly) Creager, Pamela (Mike) Benz and Ty (Cheryl) Dirr, all of Garrett, Wes (Dorothy) Dirr of Huntington, Kathy Dirr of Kendallville, Lori (Dale) Custer of Venice, Fla., Bobbi (Garry) LaLone of White House, Tenn., Lisa (Ken) Robinette of Big Lake, Alaska, Rhonda Dirr of Franklin Park, Ill. and Brent (Ann) Dirr of Alabaster, Ala.; 18 great-grandchildren; 15 step-great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grand-children; and 19 step-great-great-grand-children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy L., in 1968; brother, Robert McLain; sister, Violet Hagerman; and grandson, G. Leslie Dirr Jr.
Service is 11 a.m. Thursday at E. Harper & Son Funeral Home, 740 Indiana Hwy. 930 E., New Haven, with visitation one hour prior to service time. Visitation also from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial in Lindenwood Cemetery.
