In the early days Jesse (JB)owned slaves in northern MO. After the Civil War he moved south to Chalk Level Tws, St. Clair County, MO.
Jesse was listed as a Farmer in all Census records until 1880 when he was recorded as being a Minister. There are records that show him in an official capacity, giving the Charge to the Concord Church upon its creation.
Other records say he was the Minister at Harmony Church, which is a few miles south of the former town of Ohio, St Clair Cty, MO. Concord Church/Cemetery is located a few miles east of Lowery City, MO.
Some records show he married a Susannah Millican Thompson on May 30, 1901, before he left on the trip with others to The Promise Land in Oregon. JB returned to MO but Susannah stayed in Oregon with her daughter Lucy Thompson Scott.
