15. Samuel (8), b. Aug. 26, 1795; d. June 20, 1862. He was a farmer and res. in Wilton: a man of great physical vigor. He once mowed on a wager six acres of grass in one day between sunrise and sunset. He was widely known as an officer in the militia, and was commissioned, July 1. 1829, as Col. of the 22d Regt. of N. H. militia. He was also captain of a volunteer company, called the "Miller Guards," which received a splendid standard from Gen. James Miller. On two occasions, in 1840 and 1861, he offered his services to the country as a soldier. He was a man of generous impulses and enthusiasm. He m., Sept., 1816, Rebecca Parkhurst, who d. June 9, 1817, aged 24. He m., 2d, Jan. 27, 1820, Lydia, dau. of Rev. Jonathan Livermore, who d. March 4, 1871, aged 78. Children:
