G. A. Wied Succumbs To long Illness

For the second time within the past forty-eight hours the death angel has entered our midst, his coming again marking the passing of another citizen who had been in ill health for a long period. G. A. Wied passing away at his residence this afternoon at 2 o'clock. While he had been in bad health for a longer period, Mr. Wied's illness extended over about six months and his condition of late had been such that his death was not unexpected.

Surviving him are his widow, five sons, Elmo, Bruno. Louie, walter and Tilman Wied, four daughters, Mrs. G. R. Grosse and Mrs. Geo. Steinbach of Nordheim and Misses Thelma and Gussie Weid of this city. He also leaves two brothers, Alex Wied Fayetteville and Earnest Wied of Brenham, and three sisters, Mrs. Louis Ehlers of Shiner, Mrs. Emma Menking of Brenham, and Mrs. Ernest Voelker of Shelby.

Mr. Wies was born at Industry, Austin County, Feb. 17, 1856, and was 64 years, 5 months and 11 days age. He came to Gonzales from Shelby twent-three years ago and had resided here ever since, conducting a blacksmith shop for years.

He enjoyed the respect and regard of numerous friends and associates by whom the news of his passing will be received with deep regret, although they realize that it is better so, since he was a great sufferer during his last days.

We join the host of friends of the family in their bereavement.

The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at 5 o'clock, Rev. J. W. A. Witt, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church conducting services at the family residence, after which interment will be made in the City cemetery.

Remains Of G. A. Weid Laid to Rest

Numerous friends and relatives gathered at the Weid home Thursday afternoon to pay a final tribute to the memory of G. A. Weid, who passed away at 2 p.m. Wednesday following a long illness. Impressive funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. W. A. Witt, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church, who made a touching talk during the service. In addition to several hymns by the choir a beautiful duet, "In Heaven It is Wondrously Beautiful," was rendered by Mrs. Witt and Mrs. Barrone.

The casket, embowered in a wealth of lovely floral offerings during the services, was then borne out by the acting pall bearers, L. C. Brenner, Fred Lang, Henry Nuhn, N. D. Cone, Judge J. C. Romberge and Alfred Enderle, and the procession formed, moving to the City cemetery, where further services were conducted in English as the last offices for the dead were performed. Many and beautiful were the floral tributes that mantled the new-made grave as the benediction was pronounced, rendering it a mass of fragrant bloom.

In addition to the numerous offerings that came from friends and relatives living here, there were a number from out of town, friendsand relatives residing at Houston, Floresville, Yorktown, Shiner, Nordham and Floresville. Hansome tributes from the Hermann Sons and W.O.W. lodges, of which Mr. Weid was a member, gave eloquent expression of the sympathy felt for his family in their sorrow. The Citizens Electric Light Co. and Smith Bros. also sent lovely offerings, members of the family being in the employ of these firmds.

Mr. Weid was a member of the Lutheran church, having been confirmed in that church many years ago. Realizing that the final summons was not for off, he set his house in order against his going, was ready and fully prepared to go, and had made all arrangements for his funeral, even to the last details, which were faithfully carried out.

while a great sufferer during his last days, he was ever patient a bore his afflictions with fortitude. All the members of his family were with him when the end came, sons and daughters residing out of town having been summoned to his bedside.

His funeral was largely attended, family from out if town being present. All his relatives from a distance were in attendance with the exception of two sisters and a brother, who were unable to be here on account of illness.
