Fred Arthur Engers, age 61, of Elgin died Thursday, May 22, 2003 at Louis A. Weiss Hospital in Chicago, Illinois.
    He was born November 16, 1941 in Chicago, Illinois to Fred R. and Lucy M. Engers.
    With a career spanning many years in the Tool & Die and Injection Molding Industries, Mr. Engers was employed at Hoffer Plastics Corporation since 1973. He was also a member of St. Laurence Church, where he served on school boards including St. Edward Catholic High School. Mr. Engers was an avid car enthusiast and an active member in the Pontiac Oakland Club International (P.O.C.I).
    Mr. Engers is survived by his wife of 37 years, Joanne M.; his mother, Lucy M. of Orlando, Florida; three children, Erika M. Engers of Geneva, Tamara L. (Robert) Prentiss of Geneva and Michael G. of Hermosa Beach, California; four grandchildren, Caitlin, Collin, Corey and Casey Prentiss; a brother, Thomas A. (dear friend, Barbara Leister) of Silver Spring, Maryland and a sister, Joan (Joseph) Burns of North Glenn, Colorado; four sisters-in-law, Martha Donlan of Plainfield, Illinois, Kathleen (William) Arenz of Lomband, Marcella (Robert Nordhaus) Hollmann of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin and Mary Hollmann of Leawood, Kansas; two brothers-in-law, Thomas (Jann) Hollmann of Villa Park, Illinois and Thomas McSweeney of Inverness, Illinois; a niece, Rachel Engers of Silver Spring, Maryland and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
    He was preceded in death by his father, Fred R. and a sister, Mary Kay Thyfault; four brothers-in-law, Louis W. Hollmann, John L. Hollmann, Garet Petersen and Kevin Donlan; and a sister-in-law, Rosemarie McSweeney.
    Funeral mass will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 27 at St. Laurence Catholic Church, corner of Jewett and Standish, Elgin, Illinois. Rev. Joseph F. Kulak officiating. Burial will be at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside, Illinois. Visitation will be Monday, from 3-9:00 p.m. at Yurs Funeral Home, 405 East Main Street, St. Charles, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Patrick Residence, 1400 Brookdale Road, Naperville, Illinois 60563, Attention Development Department; to Anderson Animal Shelter, 1000 South LaFox Road, South Elgin, Illinois 60177; or to Elgin Crisis Center, P.O. Box 1390, Elgin, Illinois 60121.
