Telegraph Herald (Dubuque, IA) — Wednesday, April 9, 2003

Mrs. Leo P. (Agnes) Sagers Reistroffer, 80, who lived with her daughter, Brenda Wickham, of Epworth, Iowa, formerly of Dubuque and Bellevue, Iowa, died at 7:10 p.m. Sunday, April 6, 2003, at Stonehill Care Center.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, North Garryowen, with burial in St. Patrick Cemetery, North Garryowen. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today at Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main St., where there will be a wake service at 7 p.m.

She was born on March 19, 1923, in Garryowen, daughter of Michael and Mary (Ryle) Beauchamp.

She married Blaine C. Sagers on Nov. 27, 1942; he died on Jan. 1, 1976. She later married Leo P. Reistroffer on May 3, 1980; he died on May 6, 1989.

Agnes was one of those rare women that selflessly and lovingly devoted her life to her husbands' happiness. She was a role model for her children. A thin, beautiful woman, who could dress to the nines. She never complained in spite of hard times, was fiercely loyal and very private.

She went to elementary school at North Garryowen and graduated from Maquoketa High School on May 28, 1941. While a waitress at the Canfield Hotel, she attended the University of Dubuque, gaining her teaching certificate on Sept. 2, 1941. She taught at the Jackson County Rural Public School, Oak Leaf 9, in Zwingle, Iowa.

She and her husband, Blaine, owned and operated Sagers' Shoe Repair Shop in Dubuque for 30 years. After Blaine's death, she was employed by Frommelt Industries for 12 years before her retirement.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Parish, Bellevue, Iowa, and its rosary society; Iowa Retired Teachers; Jackson County Retired Teachers; and the Bellevue Senior Citizens.

Surviving are a son, Gary (Jan) Sagers, of Simon's Island, Ga.; two daughters, Brenda (Tom) Wickham, of Epworth, Iowa, and Janyse (Bob) Schlie, of Dubuque; 16 grandchildren; and 41 great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Francis and Joe Beauchamp, and a brother Lawrence, who died in infancy.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Bellevue Senior Center and Stonehill Care Center.
