CLARENDON SPRINGS - Richard E. "Dick" Bowen, 67, died Sunday, August 14, 2011, at the Rutland Regional Medical Center, following a brief illness.

Richard was born on March 19, 1944, in Rochester, Vt., the son of Ernest and Helen (Seward) Bowen.

Following his graduation from Rutland High School, he served four years in the Air Force.

He was employed as an equipment operator with Jack Bowen Excavating at the time of his death.

Mr. Bowen was a former member of several fraternal organizations, The Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge 1122 in Rutland, Rural Lodge #29 F&AM in Rochester, as well as the Cairo Temple Patrol & Drum Corps.

He enjoyed hunting, gambling, was an avid Yankees fan and followed NASCAR; his favorite driver was Tony Stewart.

Dick is survived by his wife, Alice; two sons from his first marriage, Travis Bowen and wife Tracy of Clarendon Springs, David Bowen and wife Heather of Florence; 13 siblings, Charlie Bowen of Whitehall, N.Y., Patty Phinney of Munson, Mass., twin brother Robert Bowen of Killington, Jack Bowen of Clarendon Springs, Gary Bowen of Castleton, Allen Bowen of S.C., Lois Noble of Mechanicsville, N.Y., Lynette Chapman of Pittsford, Debbie Ruskin of Rutland, Mike Bowen of Middletown Springs, Ginny Hamel of Las Vegas, Nev., Scott Bowen of Rutland Town and Edna LaPearle of Randolph; three grandchildren, Ashley, Amber and Alexis Bowen of Clarendon Springs; many, many nieces and nephews; as well as a special friend, Charleen Bowen of West Rutland; and eight stepchildren, Serena Forrest, Patricia Perry, Conrad Perry, Laurie Perry, Debbie Elliot, Mariah Smith, Josh Whittemore and Tally Whittemore.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, August 19, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the Federated Church of Rochester. Reverend Gregory Homan will officiate. Burial will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery.

Calling hours will be from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the Aldous Funeral Home in Rutland.
