VIRGIE ABBOTT, 72, of Mountain View, Ark., formerly of Memphis, retired carpenter, died Thursday at Memphis Veterans Medical Center after a long illness. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today at Memory Hill Gardens Cemetery. Forest Hill Funeral Home East has charge. Friday would have been Mr. Abbott's 73rd birthday.

He was a World War II Army veteran.

He leaves three daughters, Barbara G. Oden and Sheila J. Davidson, both of Memphis, and Patricia A. Majercik of Mountain View; a son, Dwight Abbott of Memphis; his mother, Cora L. Abbott of Hamilton, Ala.; five sisters, Bertha Chandler and Maxine Stone, both of Hamilton, Ilene Stone of Southaven, Ora L. Johnson of Byhalia, Miss., and Myrtle Walton of Olive Branch, Miss.; two brothers, David Abbott of Red Bay, Ala., and Athel Abbott of Hamilton, 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The family requests that any memorials be sent to the American Lung Association.
