Bernice Lenore Palmer
Bernice Lenore Palmer, 80 of Albia, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998 at Monroe County Hospital. Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, at First Christian Church, the Rev. Lynda Carlson officiating. Burial will be in Oak View Cemetery. She was born July 8, 1917 in Albia, to Amos Darby and Gertrude Combs Darby. She married Harold Palmer, June 20, 1948 in Albia. She was a Bible School secretary for 20 years, a secretary for the Monroe County Convention of Christian Churches for 30 years, a member of the church adult choir since 1930, and a member of Sweet Adelines and the Farm Bureau chorus for 10 years. She also sang for many weddings and funerals in the community. She worked for Logan ain Monuments and the Leisure Lounge, retiring in 1980. She also worked for Geyer Funeral Chapel for several years. She is survived by her husband. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Mabel. Visitation began 10 a.m., Tuesday with the family present from 6-8 p.m., at Gilbert-Nordstrom Funeral Homes, north chapel. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church. Gilbert-Nordstrom Funeral Homes, Inc., are in charge of the arrangements.
