FORT MYERS, Fla. — Paul Leon Baker, 86, Fort Myers, Fla., died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003, following a stroke.

He was born on May 24, 1917, in North Manchester, to Elmer and Mary (Moss) Baker. He had lived in North Manchester most of his life, moving to Florida in 2001, to be near his son Brian and his family.

He was a fence builder, school bus driver and home builder. He was a World War II veteran, serving as a military policeman. He was a member of the American Legion and was a founding member of the local Lions Club. He was a member of the Congregational Christian Church, North Manchester, for many years, and sang in the church quartet, while his wife, Maxine, played the piano. He enjoyed sports, fishing, softball, bowling and golf.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Maxine; two sons, Ronald (Jane) Baker , Cincinnati, and Brian (Jayne) Baker, Fort Myers, Fla.; three daughters, Mrs. Richard (Julie) Andolsen, Healdsburg, Calif., Anita Robinson, Indianapolis, and Mrs. Michael (Marcia) Boungiorno, Virginia Beach, Va.; eight grandchildren, Scott and Ryan Baker, Cincinnati, Devin and Dustin Andolsen, Healdsburg, Calif., Mrs. David (Tory) Brinson, Jasper, and Andrea, Natalie and Bryan Boungiorno, Virginia Beach, Va.; and a great-granddauighter. Four brothers, Walter, Harry, Everett and Clarence, a grandson, Derek Andolsen, and a son-in-law, Terry Robinson, are deceased.

Memorial services were conducted Saturday at Hope Hospice South, Fort Myers, Fla.

A local memorial service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 13 at the Congregational Christian Church, North Manchester. Pastor J.P. Freeman will officiate. Mr. Baker's cremains will be buried in Fairview Cemetery, Servia.

Preferred memorials are to the Congregational Christian Church Building Fund.
