HENDERSONVILLE -- Joseph Blalock Compton, 72, died Monday, June 5, 2000, at Elizabeth House.

A native of Haywood County, he had been a Henderson County resident since 1970. He was a son of the late Frank C. and Isabel Blalock Compton. He attended Mars Hill College and Wake Forest University. He graduated from Wake Forest Law School in 1953. He served in the U.S. Army after World War II and was employed by First Union National Bank as a trust officer for 23 years, retiring in 1992. He attended First Baptist Church of Hendersonville and was a member of the Hendersonville Country Club and Four Seasons Club.

Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Alease Compton; two daughters, Cindy Johnson of Greenville, S.C., and Kimberly Compton of Hendersonville; and three grandchildren.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Hendersonville. The Rev. Steve Scoggins officiated. Burial was in Shepherd Memorial Park.

The family received friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Thos. Shepherd & Son Funeral Directors.
