Mary "Agnes" Rettinger, 92, of Lebanon, died on Friday, Oct. 3, at Providence Benedictine Nursing Home in Mt. Angel.

A Funeral Mass will be held at noon on Thursday, Oct. 8, at St. Edwards Catholic Church. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Mt. Angel. Huston-Jost Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

She was born Feb. 13, 1911, in Boyds, Wash., the daughter of Irish immigrants James and Marian (Golden) Regan. She attended the Coeur d' Alene Academy, a private girls school, when she was young.

She went to college in Eastern Washington and received her teaching certificate. She taught in Boyds and other parts of Washington.

On June 26, 1936, she married Frank Clifford Rettinger. The couple moved to Brownsville in 1943. They owned and operated the Brownsville Feed and Seed and she worked as a bookkeeper for the business. In 1953, they sold the the store and moved to a farm they purchased in Lacomb.

She went to work at the Oregon Employment Division. In the 1960s, she went back to teaching. She taught in Lacomb and later Lourdes School in Jordan. She completed a Bachelors Degree from Western Oregon College in 1970. In 1982, she retired from teaching.

For health reasons, she and her husband moved to Mt. Angel in 2001. He died on April 8, 2003.

Mrs. Rettinger was a member of St. Edwards Catholic Church. She was the District Depute in the Catholic Daughters.

She is survived by daughter Anne Zielsdort of Newberg; son Jim Rettinger of Albany; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke's School at 529 Harrison, Woodburn, OR 97071.
