Russell served as a Sergeant, Company C, 209th Engineer Combat Battalion, U.S. Army during World War II.
He resided in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania prior to the war.
He enlisted in the Army on December 8, 1942 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being Carpenter and also as Single, without dependents.
Russell was "Killed In Action" after suffering a fatal wound in Burma during the war. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
