The Miller (Missouri) Press, January 18, 1973: 'A lifelong Miller area resident, Mrs. Ora E. West, 89, died at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, January 14 at the home of her son, Harold West, in Joplin where she had been visiting.

Born June 5 1883 near Miller, Mrs. West was the daughter of Independence Washington and Wilmina Jane Forshee (Forshey) Bowerman. The last of a family of 10 children, Mrs. West was a charter member of the Patten Chapel Methodist Church north of Miller. She had been a longtime resident of the Phelps community.

Mrs. West's husband, Frank, preceded her in death January 28, 1970.

Survivors include three sons, Raymond West, LaRussell route, Harold West, Joplin, and Lonas West, Miller Route 2; nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; ten great-grandchldren; four step-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in Morris-Leiman Chapel here, with the Rev. Dewey Smith officiating. Burial was made in Goss Cemetery, near Phelps.
