Injured in an auto accident early Sunday morning, Harold J (Jerry) Dowding, 17 of 201 Richfield Blvd., Mattydale, died at St. Joseph's Hospital yesterday.
He suffered head and internal injuries when the car in which he was a passenger left Route 11 about a mile north of Cicero and crashed into a tree stump in an adjoining field.

State Troopers Harry Overbaugh and W.F. Farrel said Dowding was a passenger in a car operated by James Laris, 18 of 410 Wright Ave., Mattydale. Laris was southbound in the highway about 3:15 a.m. when the accident occurred. Both were taken to St. Joseph's Hospital by ambulance.

Dowding was graduated from Smith Technical High School in June and was scheduled to enter Oswego State Teachers College this fall.
The Dowding youth had planned on following in the footsteps of his father Harold Dowding, head of the automobile mechanics department at Smith Technical High School.

He is survived by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Harold L. Dowding; two sisters; Mary Jane and Nancy Dowding; a brother, Thomas; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Thomas S Bell of Syracuse; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Warren Sherman of Central Square; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Services will be at the Sears Funeral Home, North Syracuse, and at 9:30 a.m. in St. Margaret's Church, Mattydale. Friends may call at 211 N. Main St., North Syracuse, today from 7 to 9 p.m. and tomorrow from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
