Obituary Danville Commercial News Nov. 2, 1940

Life-long resident of this community, Charles Henry Holden, 78, died at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, 1940 at his home in Hillery. He was born in Middlefork Twp., Vermilion Co. near Higginsville, June 27, 1862, son of Alexander T. Holden and Sarah (Andrews) Holden. Greatest part of his life was spent as a Miner and he was a member of the United Mine Workers Union.

Surviving in addition to his widow, Josephine Evelyn Holden, are two daughters, Mrs. Ruth Scott and Mrs. Naomi Lane of Hillery, and four sons, Thomas A., Clarence A., Harvey O., and Charles H. JR., all of Hillery. Two daughters and one son preceded him in death. He is also survived by a brother, A.T. Holden JR of Batestown and three sisters, Mary Wonderland, Danville Rt. 1; Mrs. Esther Eve, Vermilion Heights, and Mrs. Cora Mauck, of Danville.

The body is at Berhalter Funeral Home where it will remain until Saturday when it will be returned to the home in Hillery. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Monday at the United Brethren Church in Hillery. Burial in Oakhill Cemetery.
