Sophronia B. Jones died on January 23, 1889. The newspaper reported her death in the style typical of the late nineteenth century:
"Under our obituary head today may be found recorded the death of Miss Sophronia B. Jones who, for several years, has made her home with her brother, Mr. Lesllie F. Jones, where she died about eleven o'clock Wednesday night, at the age of 41 years and nine months.
Her disease was quick consumption. She appeared to be in her usual health up to some six weeks ago when she was suddenly prostrated. Since that time she has been a great sufferer, and her decline has been rapid.
She was a woman who well filled her station, and she will be greatly missed, not only in the family of which she was so useful a member, but in the entire neighborhood
We extend our sympathy to the aged mother, the sisters, the brothers and the invalid sister-in-law with whom she has for so long resided. Her funeral was attended from her late home on Saturday afternoon, Rev. Frederick Hinckley of Hyannis officiating.'
