The David Allen family sailed from England, 1844. The story of Eliza's birth is as follows:
"Coming into the mouth of the St. Laurence River, they landed at Quebec, Canada, MAY 31, 1844. On the night they landed a son was born to Mr. and Mrs James Gooderham - named George - 3 weeks to the day, on Jun 20, a daughter Eliza Lavina was born to Mr. and Mrs. David Allen". (Editor's note: the grave marker incorrectly states 1843).
Elia Allen married Colin R. Allen (Allan?) of Louisiana, 18 JUL 1866, Cashmere?, Mosa Township, Middlesex County, Ontario; the marriage was performed by John McDemot of the C. W. Methodist New Connexion Church, Cashmere.
Little is known about Colin R. Allen. He arrived at the time of the oil boom in Bothwell. He departed Bothwell sometime in the late 1860's. He left behind his wife, Eliza and his son, Ishmael; he was never heard from again.
Eliza resided with her parents, Mosa Township (1881); she arrived in Detroit about 1886; she was a dressmaker, Detroit (1900); rooming housekeeper, Detroit (1910); returned to Mosa Township after the death of her granddaughter, Elvie and daughter-in-law, Mary-Ann Allen in 1916.
Child of Collin Allen and Eliza Lavina Allen: Ishmael Allen.
